    Organizational Setting

    This position is located in FAO Representation to Pakistan, based in Peshawar. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural , fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

    Reporting Lines

    Under the general supervision of the FAO Representative and direct supervision of the International Project Coordinator, in close collaboration of Assistant FAO Representative-

    Programme (AFAOR) and Resilience Programme Officer in Pakistan and close consultation with Technical and other Staff, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring high quality of outputs on all matters related to the FAO-KP MD Programme.

    Technical Focus

    Excellent knowledge and expertise in agriculture food system, food and nutrition security, livelihood in disaster context and hands on experience in resilience building and creating economic growth opportunities for the most improvised farming communities in KP province of Pakistan

    Tasks and responsibilities

    The Agronomist will perform the following functions :

  • Lead development of project concept note and proposal focusing on food and nutrition security, livelihood, natural resource management and economic growth according to the donor requirements and ensure high quality of programmatic inputs;
  • Conduct survey and research on high priority areas under aforementioned areas for informed programme design;
  • Liaise and maintain coordination with the government line departments both research and extension at all levels, academia, implementing partners and private sector during planning and implementation of programme;
  • Supervise introduction, demonstration of resilient crops and plants species in collaboration with government institutions;
  • Develop technical specifications of crops inputs, conduct regular research on inputs availability and ensure the quality standards as per approved specifications;
  • Support networking and linkages development with other programs, private institutions for effective planning and implementation of projects / program;
  • Develop IEC (Information, Education and Communication) materials for the project / program in consultation with relevant governmental and non-
  • governmental bodies / institutions / organizations;
  • Assist M&E in developing monitoring tools , methodology and PMPs (Project Monitoring Plans);
  • Design and conduct research for technological innovations in agriculture;
  • Design and implement project component for climate change adaptation, mitigation through climate smart and conservation agriculture;
  • Prepare project / program detailed implementation plan and ensure its efficient implementation in line with the monitoring indicators;
  • Lead the capacity development of project / program partners;
  • Develop and manage bilateral agreement for strengthening partnership with government and non-government counterparts;
  • Working with Gender Focal Point to ensure gender mainstreaming in projects / programs;
  • Design and lead quality assessment, feasibilities and scoping for the existing and new projects development;
  • Promote advocates best practices, increased policy dialogue and provides technical expertise at intergovernmental meetings;
  • Provide technical advice on sustainable agriculture to guarantee production efficiency, climate adaptation and mitigation through effective climate smart, climate resilient and conservation agriculture;
  • Assist in INRM planning and implementation for agriculture and allied components;
  • Any other task assigned by the supervisor.
  • CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in Agronomy, Agribusiness and Plant / Crop Sciences and similar disciplines;
  • Expertise in smallholder production systems particularly in arid and semi-arid agro ecological regions of the country;
  • Minimum 10 years’ progressive experience within the sector;
  • Experience in project management and implementation in contexts of humanitarian emergencies, recovery, livelihood resilience and agriculture development is highly desirable;
  • Working knowledge of English. Good knowledge of Urdu and Pashto;

  • Knowledge of United Nations and International Organizations’ administrative policies and procedures.

  • Ability to work and act under pressure and with discretion in multicultural environment;
  • Ability to deal with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds;
  • Demonstrate capacity to plan, prioritize and deliver tasks on time meeting goal and objectives of the programme;
  • Maturity and confidence in dealing with high-ranking government and development sector officials (both national and international);
