Established in 1993, the Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development, Pakistan (AKU-IED, P), is a highly respected institution recognized for its teaching, research, policy analysis, as well as its work in the field with schools and other educational institutions.

The Institute has three Professional Development Centres in Karachi, Gilgit and Chitral.

To support this work, the Institute conducts a broad array of academic programmes for in-service teachers, teacher educators and education managers / leaders from both the public and private sectors.

These programmes include PhD in Education, MPhil in Education and Masters of Education as well as Advanced Diplomas, Certificate Programmes, and Continuing Professional Education courses for teachers, teacher educators, principals, and education managers and leaders.

Responsibilities :

You will be responsible for :

  • working closely with various educational development projects, particularly in GB and Chitral to integrate research, leading to theory building;
  • designing, planning and teaching graduate and short courses of various kinds;
  • supervising students’ research dissertations at the graduate level;
  • conducting independent as well as collaborative research studies;
  • individually and collaboratively, writing research and grant proposals for seeking internal and external funding;
  • publishing monographs, edited books, articles and book chapters in high quality publications including HEC recognised and international journals;
  • presenting research findings / papers at national and international conferences;
  • periodically organising seminars, workshops and conferences;
  • providing consultancy services to national and international organisations in the relevant areas of expertise or field of interest;
  • participating as a member on AKU-IED and University wide committees;
  • seeking, leading, monitoring, evaluating and implementing grant funded projects;
  • assuming leadership responsibilities for various programmes;
  • where applicable, mentoring faculty members to facilitate their development for teaching and research;
  • participating in planning and reviewing various courses;
  • participating in student recruitment processes, the admission committee and curriculum review;
  • participating in the Institute’s inter-institutional activities such as contributing to work of public institutions.
  • The requirements

  • a PhD degree in the relevant field (preferably Education), with relevant work experience. In exceptional circumstances, a candidate with a master's degree with a considerable teaching & research experience can be considered for the position;
  • a track record of leading research projects, securing competitive grants, publications in relevant peer reviewed journals and teaching at the post-graduate level in the field of education or social sciences;
  • demonstrated expertise in grant writing and funding proposals;
  • academic background in one or more of the following areas will carry an advantage : Information and Communications Technology / Instructional Design, Climate Change Education, Art Education, Educational Assessment, Language and Literacy Education, Inclusive Education and Monitoring and Evaluation;
  • in-depth knowledge of the current trends of research and grant funding opportunities;
  • strong conceptual, analytical and communication skills, both oral and written;
  • good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with teams;
  • proficiency in writing research and grant proposals;
  • evidence of academic / project leadership;
  • demonstrable evidence of learning and growing professionally in academia;
  • proficiency in the use of relevant computer software packages;
  • experience of offering courses in blended learning mode;
  • self-motivated to excel in teaching and research.
