Purpose Statement :
Lead the Area team to deliver & implement Area Leaf Operations Plan aligned with Regional plan that meets the extension, volume & quality objectives for fulfilling the domestic requirement of Leaf including Import Substitution at a planned grade mix & price in a socially responsible manner.
Principal Accountabilities :
Operational / Professional / Business
Contribute to deliver the Regional Leaf plan aligned with the Leaf Ops strategy.
Ensure effective supervision / extension services by the field force to produce the desired style of tobaccos through registered farmers.
Drive crop inputs facilitation (NPK) through crop financing from bank, organize inputs distribution under control and enable the team to realize the advance crop inputs value from farmers' including recovery of bank loan.
Ensure purchase of target leaf volumes at a planned grade mix, quality and price. Ensure proper handling of Green Leaf stock with proper accountability to preserve the quality, control infestation, minimise waste / loss and thereby improve cost.
To organize seedbed, plantation and production surveys effectively to ensure forecasting accuracy at a planned level.
To ensure availability of recommended crop inputs to growers e.g. Seeds, Fertilizers, Pesticides and Suckericides etc. through Leaf Agronomy
Monitor and analyse competition activities in the area to develop & implement effective strategy for leaf buying & other activities.
Prepare Area Budgets & establish budgetary control through proper monitoring to sustain crop expenses. Ensure effective Internal Controls over the operations including compliance with standing Instructions / operating procedures & audit recommendations.
Maintain EHS standards of the company in the depot premises and area.
Lead the field force for extension of an Integrated Crop Management (ICM) approach for sustainable agriculture.
Organise training & education of field staffs as well as farmers on Best Agronomic Practices, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and the safe / judicious use of agricultural chemicals to reduce cost of production, improve quality and minimise the Agrochemicals residue level in leaf as per BAT guideline
Drive motivation & development of field staff and the VBPs / Stakeholder (Particularly farmers) enabling them to deliver the stretching targets and meet future challenges of the company.
Contribute to develop people for the leadership pipeline of Leaf function through Coaching, training, demonstration.
Be the key agent for engaging the stakeholders (external) for smooth area operations.
Drive CSR initiatives to achieve top of mind awareness and appreciations by the stakeholder with enhanced positive image about the company & leverage it for managing the operation smoothly.
Establish a solid platform for value building relationship with the VBPs (farmers) to sustain the loyalty
Lead implementation of best practices / transferring new technology to the farmers to bring changes in crop style and reduce farmers cost of production & there by sustain farmers’ margin.
Lead the process for idea generation & implementation within own area and motivate people to generate & embrace new ideas.
Actively Support / supervise research trials in respect of crop development initiatives (new variety, fertilizer dose, cultural practices, fuel economy etc.
for the improvement of yield, quality & cost.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Must be a graduate preferably in Agriculture / Soil Science / Botany / Forestry
2-3 years of experience in the related field
Reasonably good knowledge on managing the tobacco / other agricultural crops and forestry in general.
Interpersonal skill & capability to work together with the management team, employees, farmers & other external stakeholders.
Ability to establish a strong network with Govt. departments in the area in particular with the Civil & police administration, Agriculture Department, Environmental groups, NGOs.
Good skill in planning and monitoring budget.
Computer literacy and basic IT skills.
Should have full understanding of culture and traditions of the area where he is working.
Good skills in communication
