Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located at the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP). The incumbent will report to the Chief of Section, Field Technology Section.
Within delegated authority, the Chief of Unit, Service Management will be responsible for the following duties :
supports the establishment of equipment and service contracts, and serves as the contract administrator; identifies appropriate standards to procure communications equipment at the least cost and in the most expeditious manner
Professionalism : Knowledge of a wide range of telecommunication systems with adequate skills for leading a team through the installation, maintenance and operation of these systems.
Knowledge of operations of commercial telecommunications services, voice and data communications networks, telephony switching, radio, satellite, microwave and trunked radio communication systems.
remains calm in stressful situations. Takes responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives and ensuring the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work.
shares credit for team accomplishments and accepts joint responsibility for team shortcomings.
actively seeks to apply technology to appropriate tasks; shows willingness to learn new technology.
takes personal responsibility for his / her own shortcomings and those of the work unit, where applicable.
High School diploma or equivalent and technical training in education in the field of telecommunications and information systems is required.
At least 10 years of experience in telecommunications including experience in developing and overseeing large centralized and globally distributed institutional systems.
Experience and knowledge of Communication Tower Construction, working at Height and Rescue Policies and Procedures is desirable.
Experience of LAN structured cabling and ICT backbone systems and regional coordination is desirable.
Experience in managing a large team with diverse technical skills is desirable.
The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to 5 years for candidates who possess a first level University Degree.
knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
