The role

Health and safety assistant

To assist the country health and safety manager with the coordination, management and administration of the company’s business management system and associated policies, processes and procedures relating to client health and safety management system, health, safety (OHSAS 18001 : 2007, ISO45001 : 2018), environmental (ISO 14001 : 2015) and quality (ISO 9001 : 2015) (HSEQ) management.

To support the management and coordination of internal health and safety audit programmes.

To provide professional and technical support and advise to senior and operational managers, consultants and staff members on health, safety, environmental and quality aspects, including legal compliance, conformance with company policies and processes, international standards, client requirements and industry best practice.

The health and safety assistant will deputise for the country health and safety manager in their absence.

Your responsibilities will include :

  • Assisting in ensuring implementation of the company’s and client’s health, safety, environmental and quality management processes across all areas of the business.
  • Assisting in ensuring that all managers and staff are aware of their individual and collective health, safety, environmental and quality responsibilities.
  • Assisting in ensuring that the company’s and client’s policies, processes and procedures are subject to regular auditing, monitoring and review to verify compliance and effectiveness.
  • Providing advise and support to managers and staff regarding the identification of all hazards within company offices, at all operational locations or arising from the delivery of facilities management services, including all subcontractor activities, and in determining and effecting suitable hazard elimination or risk control measures.
  • Assisting in ensuring that documented safe systems of work are developed, implemented and maintained for all activities undertaken across the business.
  • Assisting in ensuring that adequate fire management and fire or emergency evacuation procedures and arrangements are in place at all times in company offices and in all locations where macro personnel are based.
  • Assisting in ensuring that appropriate first aid facilities are available in all company offices and at all locations where macro personnel are based or operating.
  • Assisting in the development, implementation, monitoring and review of health, safety and environmental plans, quality plans and associated objectives and targets, including client health and safety management system.
  • Reporting to the country health and safety manager on all health, safety, environmental and quality aspects and issues affecting the company’s operations and work activities.
  • Coordinating the active and reactive monitoring and review of health, safety and environmental performance, collate relevant statistical data and provide regular reports and updates to the country health and safety manager.
  • Assisting and reviewing internal compliance audits of the company’s business in ensuring that management system are carried out on a regular and programmed basis across all areas of the company’s operations in accordance with the provisions of the company’s internal audit procedure and relevant international standards (i.
  • e. OHSAS 18001; ISO 9001 & ISO 14001)

  • Assisting with the assessment and review of all health, safety, environment and quality-related responses and associated document submittals by suppliers, service providers and subcontractors relating to their vetting and prequalification as approved suppliers’.
  • Assisting operational managers and site teams with active monitoring and auditing of service providers’ activities to ensure consistency of service delivery in accordance with approved safe systems of work, risk assessments, method statements, and standard operating procedures and permit to work conditions.
  • Ensuring that suitable records of all reported accidents, incidents and dangerous occurrences including those of service providers or subcontractors are maintained centrally, at sites and in client reporting system.
  • Ensuring that an adequate investigation and root-cause analysis is carried out for all reported accidents, incidents and dangerous occurrences and actively participating in such investigations as required, and also make recommendations for corrective or preventive action to avoid future recurrences.
  • Reporting to the country health and safety manager on necessary remedial actions or enhanced risk controls required following audits, inspections and accident investigations and ensure that all relevant actions are correctly implemented in timely manner.
  • Reporting the results of all active and reactive monitoring activities and trend analysis to the country health and safety manager.
  • Assisting with the formulation and development of QHSE related training material and the structuring, programming and delivery of training courses, workshops and briefings including central induction training for all newly recruited staff members.
  • Providing advise and support to operational managers with development and delivery of site-specific QHSE induction training material for newly recruited site-
  • based employees and sub-contract service providers.

  • Assisting with evaluation and monitoring of the effectiveness of all QHSE related training (both internal and external) provided by the company centrally and at operational sites.
  • Actively support and advise appointed site health and safety champions, including main contractor, in promoting good health and safety practice at operational sites.
  • The requirements

    Your knowledge, experience and skills need to include :

  • With knowledge and experience of health and safety quality management principles, practices and risk control techniques.
  • With knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, codes of practice and industry standards.
  • With knowledge, experience and training in fire risk assessment.
  • With knowledge and experience of accident and incident investigation and cause analysis and be able to lead an investigation.
  • Familiar with OHSAS 18001’ safety management standard.
  • Ability to develop and implement health and safety as well as quality management strategies and action plans.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills both in English and Urdu.
  • Persuasive with ability to positively influence others at senior management and staff levels.
  • Good organisational and people management skills.
  • Ability to manage a diverse and fluctuating workload.
  • Ability to deliver HSEQ training at all levels and good presentation skills including to large groups.
  • A team player with ability to work on own initiative.
  • With training as an internal auditor of management systems - OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001 standards.
  • With minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • With experience of working in a multi-site and multi-cultural environment.

  • A degree qualification.
  • Qualified to 'NEBOSH International General Certificate' or equivalent level as a minimum.
