Manage and support 24x7 production databases as well as development databases to ensure maximum availability of database resource for various applications

He should perform the DBA related tasks in key areas of System Administration, Database Administration, Backup, Archive & Restore Management, Performance Management & Reporting

Perform capacity planning, performance monitoring and tuning, Strategies defined for backup / recovery techniques, and problem determination and resolution.

First and second line support for all compute, storage, and networking infrastructure issues for On-prem. and public cloud hosted SLES Linux servers.

Drive OS and Application patching and upgrades as per the plan.

Set-up Alerts, reports, and dashboards for monitoring system health.

Delivery responsibilities in the areas of private cloud network administration, security administration, instantiation, provisioning, optimizing the environment, third party software support.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Manage Production / Development databases in the following areas

Workload Management

Unix Shell and Batch Scripting

Project Deliverables

Manage Customer Meetings and Co-ordinating with Teradata GSC

Perform day to day support on the servers like administration, housekeeping, maintenance, upgrade of OS, performing Security related controls and checks.

Work on server related issues of major / minor / simple / complex in nature

Perform patching and upgrades as per the plan

Configuring Health checks and taking appropriate actions based on the alerts and checks

Backups, snapshot activity in preparation to changes being implemented

Automate the routine activities

Linux servers Performance and capacity management

Using the Change & Problem Management Tools to perform any planned / unplanned maintenance

Handling of the Day to Day House Keeping tasks by using tools & scripts

Preparation of RCA for all major / minor incidents

Identify improvement opportunities in existing processes and recommend actions

Build and deliver periodic SLA and other Reports to management

24 x 7 Environment in shift roaster based duties

Attend calls on calls basis whenever assigned

Coordination with Server managers / other teams and other stakeholders


System Performance monitoring.

Exposure to tools like Teradata Administrator / SQL Assistant / TSET etc.

User, Objects and Security management as per Teradata Best practices.

Hands-on experience in using DSA

Exposure to other backup and restore process using Veritas netBackup(TARA) / netvault / Tivoli etc.

Exposure to manage the Development / QA boxes.

Exposure as an Development DBA.

Well conversant with various ticketing system / production change request

Exposure to MVC, Capacity planning and performance Management.

Hands-on experience in Statistics Management

Exposure to troubleshoot the FastLoad / Multiloading / FastExport / BTEQ / TPT and should be good at error handling.

Exposure to DWH Env (Knowledge of ETL / DI / BI Reporting).

Exposure to Utilities

Coordinate Software / Hardware Upgrade Activities.

Ensure Teradata Polices, Procedures, Customer SLA’s are honored.

Exposure to PDCR Reporting and Analysis.

Strong debugging skills


4+ years Linux system administration

Experience in handling Linux Systems Administration tasks on RedHat and SLES Linux.

Performance Monitoring and experienced in monitoring tools administration

Hands on experience on Virtualization Technologies such as KVM, VMWARE.

Hand on with implementing SSSD, LDAP, and other Identity and Authentication tools.

Experience with one or more of Shell / Perl / python scripting and other programming languages.

Experience with any of Chef / Puppet / Salt / Ansible automation.

AWS / Azure / Google Cloud Administration experience will be plus.

Performance monitoring and reporting for the compute, storage and network resources

Good understanding for Networking and Storage concepts

Skills & Attributes

Working experience as an DBA in Teradata or Oracle

Should have worked in Unix platforms.

Good presentation, communication skills.

Good team player and ability to mentor small groups

Ensuring that the processes are adhered to

Ensure maximum uptime according to the SLA

Executing tickets / requests

Monitoring and mentoring junior team members

Identifying and suggesting implementation of new technologies / products for enhancement

Helping team members in case of Issues / Technical Problems

Knowledge of ITIL best practice on incident management, change management and problem management

Desirable Skills : -

Understanding of Logical Data Model / Physical Data Model.

Understanding of Normalization and De-normalization concept.

Ability to write efficient SQL & exposure to query tuning.

Should have good working knowledge on UNIX shell scripting and Python skills.

Should have good understanding of data archive / restore policies.

Should be good at automating various processes.

Should be good at users / objects / rights management.

Some experience in an environment where ETL / BI tools such as Informatica, DataStage, Business Objects, SAS, and MicroStrategy, Tableau, Power BI were an important part of the environment.

Experience with Teradata in a cloud environment (public or private) a plus.

ITIL, RHEL or MCSE or other relevant certifications are desirable

Engineering Graduate

4 7 years of IT experience.

2 - 3 years of DBA experience

2 3 years of Linux admin handson

Excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language

Preferred Qualifications

4 Year Engineering Degree or 3 Year Masters of Computer Application.

Excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language

Must be willing to provide 24x7 on-call support on a rotational basis with the team.

Must be willing to travel both short-term and long-term
