The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Country Office for Pakistan (COPAK) is tasked with assisting Pakistan through its recently developed Country Programme (CP) II, 2016-
19 with a focus on illicit trafficking and border management, criminal justice and drug demand reduction and HIV / AIDS. As part of the CP II, there is significant strategic planning and coordination required with the Government to implement its Criminal Justice Programme (Sub-Programme II).
MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSIGNMENT.
COPAK requires the services of a Rule of Law and Criminal Justice Coordinator possessing expertise in Pakistan in the areas that include criminal justice and legal reforms.
The purpose of the assignment is to advise and support UNODC and the relevant stakeholders in building consensus for the endorsement of the developed Rule of Law (RoL) Roadmap in Sindh, operationalization of the Roadmap, ensure political buy in and access on the anti-
corruption component, advise and support the UNODC Adviser Criminal Justice on new areas of interventions under SPII portfolio and the strategic positioning of UNODC with the Pakistani counterparts and international actors.
The Coordinator will provide input through specific deliverables and periodic written briefs and / or advisory notes and through briefing meetings in periodic visits to Islamabad.
The RoL CJ Coordinator will further advise the sub-programme Advisor of SPII on the needs of recipient departments, agencies and ministries, Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan and international commitments and on appropriate strategies for efficient programme delivery that will help position the UNODC office on the development agenda of the country.
