We are looking for a motivated, business savvyin-house legal counsel to join our General Counsel Office team to be based inKarachi, Pakistan.
This role will be within the Core Business Services (CBS) serviceline and will handle a broad range of responsibilities supporting the MENAregion as well as Pakistan.
The idealcandidate should demonstrate fair understanding of the all aspects ofcommercial law with a nuanced view of the EY business environment and practice,as well as demonstrate legal knowledge and expertise in drafting andnegotiating complex contracts and will appreciate being a critical part of the MENAoperations in a fast-growing, market defining set-up across various industries.
Your key responsibilities
Asa Legal Counsel within EY, you will be a focal point of contact in Pakistan tosupport the MENA General Counsel. Handling a wide variety of legal demands thatarise in a rapidly growing market and provide business-minded legal advice tothe business on the various legal issues which may include employment matters,contracts & agreements, policies, procedures, mergers & acquisitions,tenders and ongoing projects within EY.
Subsequently,you can expect to quickly become a trusted and reliable advisor to the firm asyou work with colleagues across the MENA region’s business.
You will beresponsible for, independently drafting, revising and negotiating complexcommercial contracts integral to the business.
You will also gain a deepunderstanding of privacy and other data protection laws and regulationsimpacting the business and the ability to translate that understanding intoactionable guidance for business teams.
In addition to monitoringregulatory changes and providing legal advice and actionable guidance to thebusiness.
Aspart of the in-house legal team, you will be reporting directly to the MENAGeneral Counsel.
Skills and attributes forsuccess
Ideal candidate should be a licensed generalist lawyerwith +7 years of post-qualification experience incorporate transactional work, with a preference for at least 3 years of in-houseexperience with growing businesses or an international law firm.
To qualify, you must have
Atleast 7 years of post-qualification experience.
Aproven level of English fluency, both spoken and written.
Excellentbusiness judgment, intellectual curiosity and the ability to balance legal andbusiness requirements.
Provenability to draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements with a solution-orientedapproach.
Commercialawareness of the business issues facing the organisation and the ability todeal with problems in a practical and intuitive way.
Provenability to establish a high degree of credibility, respect and trust at alllevels, including working collaboratively as a team player with internalbusiness stakeholders.
Thecapability to lead, take responsibility and act autonomously; including anability to take difficult decisions and provide substantiated arguments
Strongpersonal communication skills, capable of dealing with wide range of people
Effectiveplanning and organising skills to prioritise key areas of responsibility, tasksand projects with deadlines and the ability to thrive in a fast paced changingenvironment.
Theability to keep calm in a crisis and to cope well with conflicting deadlines
Ideally,you should also
Haveemployment law experience gained in either a reputable firm (or equivalent)and / or in-house function.
Haveexperience navigating data privacy laws and issues in a commercial context.
HaveExperience in or demonstrated interest in technology and innovation.
Beable to operate with limited use of external counsel
