Position Overview

The incumbent will take ownership for the management, development, maintenance, and ongoing maturity of our Tableau platform within Corporate IT.

They will create, manage, and enforce governance policies regarding usage, best practices, platform hygiene, and information security.

They will further assist in onboarding of new platform users and provide high-level training. As needed, they will provide support to users in the creation of their dashboards and in the answering of their technical questions.

This role will require a flexible, agile approach to meet our evolving business needs. You will work alongside several teams including business analysts, project managers, data engineers, and business stakeholders.

The incumbent will report to the Sr. Director, Technology Enablement.

Pulse, the Corporate Tableau platform, houses dozens of critical executive and operational dashboards. It is used by thousands of employees everyday who trust it to execute their duties.

The Career Opportunity

Business Analytics and Reporting as a Corporate service is a still new. This is a greenfield role for the right candidate who can bring both technical Tableau expertise and business savvy to develop this offering into a mature business service with governance, corporate data strategies, information security policies, a product roadmap, and a clearly communicated backlog with strong business value.

You will lead a small team of Tableau and reporting professionals. You will partner with a variety of groups including the data warehouse team, data science team, user experience team, and stakeholders from every function across the entire organization.

The candidate will :

  • Develop and regularly communicate a clear roadmap for the Data Visualization team that demonstrates clear business value
  • Develop governance strategies for maintain platform stability and security while making it accessible to our employees in a distributed manner.
  • Develop a data strategy for commonly used data sets that allows for reusability, efficiency, accessibility, and accountability.
  • Partner with the technical support team to ensure that the server is healthy, patched and that we are taking regular updates
  • Using an Agile Scrum approach, provide support to our users in onboarding, executing on responsible data ingestion strategies, developing efficient and clear visualizations, etc.
  • Utilize a consultative approach to identify, drive and deliver efficient and impactful data visualizations
  • Partner with teams globally to identify and drive opportunities
  • Partner with key data source providers to design and provide reusable data strategies that minimize load / demand on the origin.
  • Help us define and shape the future of work at S&P through the strategic application of technology
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and their potential applications within the business
  • Evaluate technology and vendor strategies to meet future needs in the organization. Comply with relevant policies, testing and certifying the adequacy and effectiveness of their controls on a regular basis.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Engineering is required, or in lieu, a demonstrated equivalence in work experience
  • 5+ years’ experience working as a member of or leading a business analytics or data visualization team
  • Deep hands-on experience with Tableau, PowerBI, or another reputable BI platform
  • Strong knowledge of RDBMS concepts
  • Experience defining policies, governance standards, and standard operating procedures
  • Experience writing corporate communications
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team
  • Exposure to Agile Scrum development lifecycle methodologies
  • Love for learning and applying new technologies to improve business outcomes
