Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the security management system to enable the safest and most efficient conduct of the security programmes and activities of the United Nations System.
The post is located in the Security Information and Operations Center (SIOC) in Islamabad, Pakistan. A Security Information and Operations Centre (SIOC) is a part of the integrated United Nations security management structure at a duty station located in a country or area prone to security challenges and where the Organisations of the United Nations system have complex and critical operational priorities.
This duty station has been designated by the International Civil Service Commission as a "C" hardship and family duty station.
The incumbent will work under the guidance of the Chief, SIOC and under the supervision of Chief Security Advisor (CSA).
The Chief, Threat and Risk Assessment Service (TRS) is an additional supervisor.
Within delegated authority, the Security Information Analyst may be responsible for the following duties :
participates in development of procedures for security operations, contributing with preparation and review of security-related briefs for the CSA and DO related to current / significant events in various areas.
a. Established liaison with the SIOC Afghanistan to coordinate cross border analysis, due to the shared operational space by threat actors.
a. Analyses trends of security incidents affecting the organizations of the UN System.
b. Identifies, through field research of threat actors, the operating environment of the UN in liaison with host governments' security interlocutors.
communicate with relevant clients to disseminate processed information on strategic assessments on trends of security threats in related regions.
Remains calm in stressful situations; Takes responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives and ensuring the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work.
Demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.
Monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary; Uses time efficiently.
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in political, military or international relations or related fields.
A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in applied military, police, or political predictive analysis is required.
At least two years of international experience in a multilateral organization in the field of criminology or corporate security is required.
Experience in the analysis of either security, crime, political, or military trends is desirable.
Experience in information or intelligence analysis is desirable.
Experience in the preparation of analytical statistical reports is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post fluency in English is required.
Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
