SCOPE OF WORK

Mapping of reuse and replacement procedures of Ipas Manual Vacuum Aspirators and cannula : Data consultant for data collection

1. Project Summary

DKT International began globally distributing the Ipas Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA) technology in 2017. The MVA kit, which includes the Ipas MVAPlus® single valve (SV) and the Ipas EasyGrip® cannula, is used in over 100 countries and is the world’s most utilized, safe, and effective surgical abortion technology.

DKT expands access to abortion care by ensuring abortion-related products and technologies are widely available, as well as implementing education and outreach campaigns that reach women, especially in poor and rural areas.

While the Ipas MVAPlus® single valve (SV) and the Ipas EasyGrip® cannula can be safely used up to 25 times (where regulations allow reuse) with proper instrument processing, anecdotal evidence suggests that abortion providers are sometimes using these components above this recommendation.

This research aims to understand how many times the Ipas MVAPlus® single valve (SV) and the Ipas EasyGrip® cannula are being reused, when and why the kits are being discarded and replaced, and barriers to replacing them.
