    Organizational Setting

    This position is located in FAO Representation to Pakistan, based in Peshawar. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural , fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

    Reporting Lines

    Under the general supervision of the FAO Representative and direct supervision of the International Project Coordinator, in close collaboration of Assistant FAO Representative-

    Programme (AFAOR), Resilience Programme Officer in Pakistan and close consultation with Technical Staff, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring high quality of outputs on all matters related to the project

    Technical Focus

    Excellent / advanced knowledge of MS office is necessary.

    Tasks and responsibilities

    The Associate Agronomist will perform the following functions :

  • Support to Agronomist to prepare a detailed work plans, project Detailed Implementation Plans (DIPs) as per the assignment;
  • Support the agronomist in coordination, organization, monitoring and overall implementation of project activities;
  • Supervise the receipt and distribution of inputs (seeds, tools and agro-processing equipment) under the technical guidance of agronomist;
  • Ensure proper involvement of beneficiaries, government and other stakeholders within the projects / program implementation areas / districts;
  • Assist the agronomist and M&E team in monitoring and evaluation of projects / program;
  • Support the agronomist to prepare project updates and periodical reports;
  • Assist the agronomist in project / program communication and visibility ;
  • Assist the agronomist in development of project visibility / communication plans and IEC (Information Education and Communication) materials;
  • Support the agronomist for organization and facilitation of meetings and workshops;
  • Assist the agronomist and M&E team in conducting project / program surveys;
  • Assist the agronomist in carrying out capacity development initiatives through development and promotion of appropriate training materials, manuals and curricula;
  • Assist the agronomist in integrating sound agronomic practices with sustainable mechanization options where appropriate;
  • Seek guidance from agronomist in the introduction, extension and promotion of suitable cereals, vegetables and fruit crop varieties for value chain and enterprise development;
  • Facilitate and assist the agronomist in the Project’s FFS , WOS, FBS and PMGs formation and strengthening;
  • Perform other related duties as required by the International Project Coordinator, Program Officer Resilience, and Agronomist and within agricultural area of technical competence;

    Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Agribusiness and Plant / Crop Sciences;
  • Expertise in smallholder production systems particularly in arid and semi-arid agro ecological regions of the country;
  • Minimum 5 Years progressive experience within the sector including market aspects, preferably with private sector;
  • Working knowledge of English. Good knowledge of Urdu and Pashto;

  • Knowledge of United Nations and International Organizations’ administrative policies and procedures.

  • Ability to work and act under pressure and with discretion in multicultural environment.

  • Demonstrate capacity to plan, prioritize and deliver tasks on time meeting goal and objectives of the programme.
  • Maturity and confidence in dealing with high-ranking government and development sector officials (both national and international).
