Roads & Infrastructure is one of the major functional Areas of SMEC. We are currently seeking to employ Technical Manager , Roads & Infrastructure for Pakistan & West Asia Region which is a part of SMEC’s South Asia Middle East Division (SAME).
The objective of this position is to provide technical support, leadership, management and strategic direction for projects delivery and business development activities and when necessary support other Regions to collaborate with the wider SMEC business.
Provide technical and managerial support to the Project Managers / Team Leaders particularly covering technical and contractual aspects of the projects for high quality delivery of Projects to the satisfaction of the Clients
To act as Project Director for certain projects;
Support the Regional Manager / Executive Director for business development including assistance in the preparation of technical proposals to ensure proposals are of high quality;
Identify partner firms to make effective alliances for bidding, winning and delivering projects;
Undertake contract negotiations in conjunction with business section;
Manage staff utilization levels and ensure projects are adequately resourced with appropriately qualified and experienced staff;
In consultation with HR team manage recruitment and retention activities for this functional group for the Region / Division;
Develop and impart, training, mentoring and professional development of the targeted group staff including SMEC subsidiary staff;
Learn & maintain knowledge of the capability within SMEC in relation to the functional area of Roads & Highways to be able to source and propose the best possible teams;
Understand and manage the business risks within the functional area;
Identify & build relationships with clients in collaboration with other SMEC managers;
To set up projects, mobilize project teams, provide induction training and briefing particularly to staff who is new to SMEC;
Manage technical problem solving on projects, either directly, or through assistance from technical resource base of SMEC;
Manage the project audit program and undertake project audits;
Prepare management reports as required;
Key Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering. Additional post graduate qualifications in highway / transport engineering will be a plus;
Minimum of 15 years or higher professional experience in the relevant industry;
Maximum age : preferably below 55 years;
Sound knowledge and experience of contracts administration;
Technical expertise in highways / motorways, preferably with a combination of planning, feasibilities, design, project management, construction supervision;
Possessing leadership qualities and capability in management, technical training and mentoring;
High level oral and written communication skills;
International experience in various countries will be a plus;
Track record of managing a portfolio of concurrent projects;
Preparing reports and documents of high standard;
Understanding of working across varied cultural & geographic regions / countries.
This is a regular position and Pakistan Origin / Nationals having relevant experience and extensive overseas experience are also encouraged to apply.
