Job Purpose :
The Medical Scientific Liaison / Advisor is a field-based scientific expert on their assigned therapy area, disease area, clinical practice and competitor landscape.
Through their expertise and external interactions they will develop insights which will assist in the development and execution of innovative Medical Affairs strategies and plans that clearly support GSK development of medicines of value for patients and customers.
The MSL exists to provide non-promotional, medical support that helps to ensure the safe and effective use of GSK’s medicines, through effective scientific interactions with external experts to provide support to GSK study teams with the provision of scientific education and inquiry management from investigators and staff engaged in GSK-supported clinical trials.
Key Responsibilities :
Be the scientific expert for a particular medicine or group of medicines in a therapy area in Pakistan
Maintain a detailed understanding of the therapy area and a deep appreciation of the science and evidence for GSK medicines and other non-
GSK treatment options in the therapy area.
MSL is primarily a field-based role with 70% external engagement required and includes extensive traveling.
Act as the interface between the professional healthcare community and the internal GSK medical team and its affiliates providing value-
added insights and feedback from the community designed to improve medical, commercial and service provision
Engage in balanced, peer-to-peer scientific dialogue aligned with Medical Plan & HCP needs
Engage in non-promotional scientific dialogue with individuals (1 : 1) or groups to informally seek insights from External Experts that inform GSK medical and research strategies.
Provide information in response to standing requests from external stakeholders (e.g. HCPs) when appropriate information becomes available.
Respond compliantly to unsolicited information requests from healthcare professionals and associated individuals regarding licensed or un-
licensed GSK medicines and indications; ensure all medical information responses are factual, fair and balanced, scientifically rigorous and strictly comply with local regulations.
Development of the Medical Plan in collaboration with the Medical Manager.
Fully understand and comply with local codes of practice, guidelines and laws to ensure the strictest requirements are met particularly with respect to delivery of promotional verses non-promotional information.
Participation at / and networking at scientific conventions establishing new contacts and facilitating exchange of information .
Disseminate important safety information to the healthcare profession as directed by the Medical Affairs or Research and Development teams or the Dear Healthcare Provider Letter (DHPL) process
Work with medical colleagues to identify External Experts, professional groups, decision makers and other key stakeholders in the assigned therapy area and or geography.
Support GSK study teams with the provision of scientific education and inquiry management from investigators and staff engaged in GSK-
supported clinical trials e.g. Investigator-Sponsored Studies (ISS).
Provide Product and its respective Therapeutic area training to business partners such as the Commercial team.
Review of ZINC jobs raised by Medical and Commercial Departments
Provide scientific training to the corresponding GSK commercial team members
Provide scientific training for GSK sales representatives regarding GSK products and the conditions they treat utilizing approved Sales Training materials.
MSLs may proactively conduct presentations in a promotional capacity on our products and disease areas, on licensed indications, to groups of healthcare professionals.
MSLs may present at GSK satellite symposia or stand-alone meetings for specific circumstances such as the launch of a medicine or vaccine or when significant new information becomes available or to enter in to a scientific debate related to GSK medicines in the case of scientific misrepresentation
Basic qualifications :
M.D., M.B.B.S., B.D.S. , AND / OR other professional healthcare provision qualification with experience (e.g. nurse practitioner, physician, surgeon, physiotherapist)
Strong academic background having participated in, or led research projects and authored publications;
Demonstrated strong communication skills such as presenting at national or international congresses or strong history of previous working with external experts
Preferred qualifications :
Masters in Business Administration post previous degree mentioned above
Pharmaceutical industry experience in a role successfully engaging in scientific exchange with external experts
