Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka i.e. BSPAN combined is the third most populated region in the world with 383 million people.

This region also has the youngest population where more than 30% of population is under the age of 30 and growing at a rate of 1.1 to 2%.

Unilever skin care business size is 150 Million € and growing at CAGR 9%. The market size is 400 Million € and growing. The market is also changing with more people using the digital space while ecommerce and modern trade share are growing.

Skin care business is facing challenges from the local competition and hence we need to embed local insights for the innovations ran across these countries.

A Product Development Manger role for Skin care will be leading the R&D activities in BSPAN to support the business seizing this growth opportunity.

The purpose of the Product Development Manager BSPAN will be to support Unilever Skin Care brands through category design activities in BSPAN countries involving creams and lotions, sunscreens, petroleum jelly and lip products.

Additional work will center around new product forms and sourcing which create new opportunities for flexibility, speed and savings.

This will involve working with internal R&D teams, Procurement, Marketing, Brand and Supply Chain, both locally and regionally, as well as external suppliers.

This role will report to South Asia cluster Skin care design manager in Mumbai and will have dotted reporting line to Pakistan R&D lead.

The role will have one WL1 reporting in Pakistan and one WL1 based out of Mumbai.


  • End to end responsibility for Pakistan Skin Care CCBT
  • Responsible to drive synergies in the cluster to deliver growth ambition
  • Setting up COP network for BSPAN for Skin Care
  • Working with SA Skin Care Group leader to create & implement R&D strategy for the BSPAN countries
  • Designated R&D partner and first point of contact (FPOC) for any country activity that requires R&D input, including : innovation, regulatory compliance, issue management, challenges etc.
  • Ensure OTIF delivery of R&D elements of agreed technical innovation plan (70 : 20 : 10) in close partnership with RDC / GDC : Lead ’70’ in-
  • market deployment in partnership with Design & Cluster Deploy organization and lead 20 / 10’ program for the country in line with gate keeping guidelines and innovation rules (allowing fast-

    tracking of low risk / low complexity projects)

  • Manage external work according to Agile Outsourcing framework
  • Ensure OTIF delivery of R&D elements of agreed saving and simplification plan
  • Ownership of the CCBT innovation agenda :
  • Champion Quality
  • Champion product activation with consumers and customers (Knowledge Based Selling)
  • Be the voice of technology. Help identify new trends and technology opportunities and ensure good practice Lift & Shift’ from wider R&D community
  • Carry out a holistic end-to-end product design role, working in all aspects of product development, from lab formulation design to supporting scale up for manufacturing
  • Deliver 5S and Blue Funnel formulation activities
  • Interface strongly, on a day-to-day basis with regional project core team, taking the lead on behalf of formulation development function in planning
  • Examine formulation and processing changes and effect on products to resolve issues, providing support to SC, sourcing units and 3rd parties
  • Drawing up own activity plans and plans for formulation technicians to match project requirements.
  • Training of other individuals on formulation technologies, instruments and control systems, if required
  • Stability testing of formulations
  • Write formulation and process specifications
  • Use of Unilever tools as PLM, Process Flow Diagrams, etc.
  • Digital space : work on KBS and making the R&D activities on digital platform

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • 8-10 years’ experience. Skin Care formulation expertise is a must
  • Relevant experience in formulation and or processing development
  • Skilled and comfortable working in a digital environment KBS and PLM
  • Ability to respond quickly to change in priorities
  • Experience of successful leadership of innovation and mix deployment in market
  • Experience of project management, including with third parties
  • Proven experience of working within networks
  • Knowledge of Skin Care ingredients and country regulatory
  • A deep knowledge of product and process and creative product development
  • Proven operational experience of Unilever systems (e.g. Interspec, PLM, Blue) for mix deployment
  • Proven operational implementation through projects
  • Proven understanding of Unilever and country legislative standards
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Can do trouble shooting in case of Quality issues in Batch making
  • Time management and priority setting
